Biography

(13.09.1950, Zh. Zhabayev State farm, Alma-Ata region) - ballet dancer, choreographer, teacher, composer.

He graduated from the Almaty State Choreographic School (1960-1966). 1971-1976 studied at the Ballet Master Department of the A.V. Lunacharsky GITIS, teachers A. A. Lapauri, R. S. Struchkova, L. M. Talankina, T. S. Tkachenko. He performed his graduation performance "Revival" to the music of F. Poulenc on the stage of the Abay SAOBT.

1966-1970 - ballet dancer of the "Young Ballet" under the direction of B. Ayukhanov. 1980-1982 - soloist of the Abay SAOBT. 1978-1980 - ballet master of the Abay SAOBT. He staged the ballet "Aliya" to the music of M. Sagatov, the TV film "My Brother, Mowgli", a number of choreographic compositions for theater artists.

He is an innovator and founder of modern choreography in Kazakhstan. One of the first who being in Moscow tried himself as a ballet master in new choreographic directions. For 20 years, he has been implementing the ideas of modern dance in Kazakhstan, laid the foundations for teaching modern choreography.

He created a large number of productions: he choreographed, wrote music, composed texts for musicals and performed them personally. Staged the rock ballet "XXth century" for the students of the Seleznev ACS based on the symbiosis of classical dance, jazz, modern and contemporary (1987). The performance was held twice on the stage of the Abay SAOBT, once even with the participation of a rock star of the 80s of the XX century Viktor Tsoi, causing a surge of attention of the audience. At various times, he staged choreographic compositions in professional and amateur groups: “Ak-ku” (State pop and youth ensemble “Gulder” (1985) to the music of Sugur), the composition “Gasyrlar uni” consisting of three dances - “Zholaushylar”, “Kures” and “Sherniyaz” (SFDE “Altynay” (1995). The mass dance “Balbyrauyn”, in which more than 300 performers took part, captivated the audience at the opening of the XX Olympic Games (Moscow, 1980).

The organizer of the first International festivals of modern dance in Kazakhstan, the creator of the groups "Kipchak-dance", "Euraz-show"(early 90s of the XX century), took part in various prestigious International competitions with his productions, is a titled modernist choreographer. He worked at the Dance Theatre of Harlem together with the legendary Arthur Mitchell, as well as a guest choreographer in various US troupes: "Company and Choole ballet teacher", held master classes in various troupes. He staged his first productions at the Festival Ballet Company (Rhode Island, New York), worked in Dance Theater of Harlem and the ballet school at the theater. Since 2001, he lives and works in the USA (Providence), together with his wife, ballerina V. Kurmasheva, is engaged in teaching and staging activities in his own private school.
