KENZHETAYEV Kauken (Kabdykarim) Kenzhetayevich
Biography
(25.04.1916, Bayan-Aul village, - 15.03. 2008, Almaty) - actor, singer, director. People's Artist of the KazSSR (1959).
In 1935-1941 he studied at the Kazakh studio at Moscow State Conservatory. In 1942-1946 - service in the army in the Far East in the Song and Dance Ensemble of the border guards (Khabarovsk). He graduated from the Vocal Faculty of Alma-Ata Conservatory (1950). In 1946-1979 - soloist (baritone) and director of the Abay Kazakh Opera and Ballet Theatre. In the Abay Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre, K. Kenzhetayev created many performances that were included into the golden fund of the opera art of Kazakhstan, including: “Amangeldy”, “Er Targyn”, “Kyz-Zhibek”, “Zhalbyr” by Y. Brusilovsky, “Aisulu” by S. Mukhamedzhanov, “Alpamys" by E. Rakhmadiyev, "The Queen of Spades" by P. Tchaikovsky etc.
Since 1979 and until the last days of his life - Head of the Department of Musical Comedy, teacher, associate professor, professor of Almaty Theater and Art Institute.
In January 2007 in the K. Baiseitova National Opera and Ballet Theatre the premiere of the opera-ballet "Kalkaman-Mamyr" took place. This stage work based on the poem of the same title by Sh. Kudaiberdiev has been re-worked for more than 20 years, the music was written by B. Kydyrbek, the author of the libretto - K. Kenzhetayev.
