Biography

LIFANOVA Ekaterina Pavlovna (24.11.1903 - 19.04.1977, Almaty) - ballet dancer, Honored Artist of the KazSSR (1936).

She gained the ballet education in private ballet studios in Irkutsk, then in Moscow. From 1919 she danced on the stage in Samara, Moscow, Transcaucasia, Tashkent.

Since 1933, she began working at the Kazakh Musical Theatre, the first professional artist in the team of the national ballet troupe. 1933-1943 - leading soloist of the theater and performer of the national repertoire: Chansonette in the musical drama play "Aiman-Sholpan", solo dances in the ballet and opera performances "Shuga", "Zhalbyr", "Er-Targyn", "Kyz Zhibek".

Until 1954, she worked as a director, ballet master and tutor in the ballet troupe of the Abay SAOBT. Her original productions (Kazakh dances in V. Velikanov's ballet "Kambar and Nazim", concert performances for students of the choreographic school and amateur art groups) were characterized by the loyalty to the established traditions of the national dance.

She made a great contribution as a director and custodian of the heritage, repeatedly revived in new editions the national operas "Kyz Zhibek", "Zhalbyr", "Yer-Targyn" by Y. Brusilovsky (staged by ballet master A. A. Aleksandrov (Martirosyants).
