Biography

(26.01.1957, Leningrad) - production designer, costume designer. People's Artist of Russia (2011), Laureate of the State Prizes of Moldova, Belarus, Kazakhstan, winner of the highest theater award of St. Petersburg "Golden Soffit" (play "Fiddler on the Roof", staged by L. Rakhlin) of the theater-festival "Baltic House" (2020).

Graduated from the Production Department of the N.K. Cherkasov Leningrad State Institute of Theatre, Music and Cinematography, workshop of I. Segal (1979). In his student years, he made his debut as a production designer in the ballet "Giselle" by A. Adam in the S.M. Kirov State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre (1977), carried out more than 350 performances in the best theaters of the world. The artist worked a lot abroad, including in the Vienna State Opera, Berlin State Opera Unter den Linden, Israeli Opera (Tel Aviv), Royal Theater Glasgow, National Opera of Greece (Athens), Bolshoi Theater- National Opera (Warsaw), Hungarian State Opera House (Budapest), National Theater of Korea (Seoul), New National Theater in Tokyo, New York City Ballet, the Bolshoi Opera and Ballet Theater of Belarus (Minsk). The performances created by Vyacheslav Okunev entered the repertoire of Italian theaters: La Scala, Arena di Verona, Cagliari Opera House.

He fruitfully cooperates with Kazakh theaters. In K. Baiseitova NOBT he worked as a production designer in the ballets: "Alkissa" by R. Salavatov, choreography by V. Goncharov (2006); "Kyskiyaly" by R. Salavatov (2008); "Eternal Flame" by S.Zh. Erkimbekov in choreography by V.A. Goncharov (2010); musical "The House of Your Dreams" by S. Yerkimbekov (2011).
