For many years, the Montagues and the Capulets, two noble families of Verona, have been opposing each other. The young representatives of the warring houses Romeo and Juliet fight for their love, trying to overcome the vicissitudes of fate. But in vain. The lovers die.
The idea of Shakespeare's plot in the ballet lies in opposing the world of the Middle Ages to the world of the Renaissance, the clash of two systems of thinking, culture, worldview. This determined the architectonics and composition of the play.

The plot is based on Shakespeare's immortal tragedy about the unhappy love of a young man and a girl from warring families. At a ball at the Capulet house, young Juliet falls in love with Romeo from the Montague family, who entered the party unrecognized. At night, they confess their love to each other and secretly get married. The next day, in a duel, Juliet's cousin Tybalt kills Romeo's friend Mercutio, Romeo kills Tybalt and leaves the city. Parents are trying to force Juliet to marry Paris. She drinks sleeping pills to pretend to be dead, hoping to wake up in the crypt and meet Romeo there. Romeo does not know that the poison that his beloved drank is not fatal, in despair he drinks his poison. Juliet wakes up, hugs the dying Romeo for the last time and stabs herself with a blade.
