Biography

31.03.1948, Alma-Ata.

Composer, pianist. Honored Art Figure of the Kazakh SSR (1984), Laureate of the State Prize of the Kazakh SSR for the music for the feature film "Chokan Valikhanov" (1986).

1955-1966 – student of the K. Baiseitova Republican Music School, piano class.

1966-1973 – studied at the Kurmangazy Alma-Ata State Conservatory.

1970-1974 – concertmaster of the House of Culture of the Alma-Ata Repair Plant No.2.

1975 – concertmaster and teacher in the composition class of the Alma-Ata Musical School, intern- researcher at the Department of Composition of the Kurmangazy Alma-Ata State Conservatory of Kurmangazy.

1977 – assistant intern of the Composition Department of the Kurmangazy Alma-Ata State Conservatory of Kurmangazy.

1982-1984 – Inspector of the Union of Composers of Kazakhstan.

Since 1985 he is involved in the creative work.

Since 1998 he lives in the USA.

The works: transcription of the folk song "Khorlan" for the voice and chamber orchestra (1967), Variations for piano (1969), Symphonic etudes (1971), Concerto for piano and symphony orchestra (1973), "Ballad of Immortality" for voice and piano to the words by R. Rozhdestvensky, orchestral piece "Shalkyma" (1974), the kui "Kerbez" (1976), "Otrar" (1979), "Shertpe kui" (1982), the Third Piano Concerto (2006), the opera "Tomiris" (2006), the musical "Astana!" (2010), Violin Sonata "Folio Verso" etc.

The author of the music for the ballets "Aksak-Kulan", "My Brother, Mowgli", "Tlep and Sarykyz", staged at the Abay Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theatre.

In January 1976, the premiere of the two-act ballet "Aksak-Kulan" to the music of A. Serkebayev (choreography by M. Tleubayev. Conductor T. Osmanov) took place. The music was distinguished by a modern sound, which was facilitated by interspersing of jazz rhythmic and harmonic models. In 1982, the creative tandem of A. Serkebayev and choreographer M. Tleubayev for the first time presented the rock ballet "My Brother, Mowgli" to the public. The libretto was written by D. Nakipov, based on the "Jungle Book" by R. Kipling. The phonogram was sounded by R. Rymbayeva, E. Abdrakhmanov, N. Vildanov, A. Meirbekov, accompanied by the rock group "Arai" (later A-Studio). The music harmoniously combined choir and solo arias, duets and recitatives.

In January 2009, the premiere of the ballet "Tlep and Sarykyz" took place. The plot was based on the poem of the Kazakh writer Nesipbek Aituly, re-worked into a libretto by the famous playwright E. Rozinsky. In music, the imitation of the sound of kobyz, dombra by means of symphonic instruments was used. At the end of the second act, a requiem was performed by two violins, imitating the playing of the kyl-kobyz.

In June 2015, in the ballet "Legends of the Great Steppe", staged on the stage of the Kazakh State Academic Opera and Ballet Theater named after Abay, musical fragments from the composer's works were used by choreographer Gulzhan Tutkibayeva together with music by composers Gaziza Zhubanova, Tles Kazhgaliyev, Mynzhasar Mangitayev, Mansur Sagatov, Nurgisa Tlendiev, Adil Bestibayev.
