Biography

28.09.1897, the Shyngystau tract, Abai district, Semipalatinsk region - 27.06.1961, Moscow.

Outstanding writer, playwright, scientist, public figure.

Doctor of Philology, professor, Academician of the Academy of Sciences of the KazSSR (1946); Honored Figure of Science of the KazSSR (1957).

In 1928 he graduated from the Faculty of History and Philology of the Leningrad State University. Author of the novels, dramas, articles on art and literature, research works. His novel "The Way of Abai" was included into the "Library of the World Literature". He is a recognized classic of Kazakh literature, the 50-volume Collection of his works was published. He made a significant contribution to the development of the literature, as well as the theatrical art in the republic.

Literary activity related to the ballet art: the author of the libretto of the first Kazakh national ballet "Kalkaman and Mamyr" which is based on the poem of the same name by Sh. Kudaiberdiyev and folk legend motifs. The premiere of the ballet with music by V. Velikanov, choreography by L. Zhukov took place on June 24, 1938.

In 1987, the composer G. Zhubanova wrote the music for the ballet "Karagoz", which is based on one of the best works of Mukhtar Auezov - the tragedy in 4 acts "Karagoz". The premiere took place in 1990 on the stage of the Abay SAOBT staged by the ballet master G. Aleksidze.

In 2014, the premiere of the ballet "Karagoz" took place at the “Astana Opera” SOBT. The performance was staged in 2 acts and nine scenes, with prologue and epilogue. The musical edition was carried out by the conductor A. Mukhitdinov, ballet master V. Usmanov.

Awards: Labor Red Banner Order (1945, 1957); Laureate of Stalin Prize of the I degree for the novel "Abai" (1948-1949); “Badge of Honor” Order (1949); Lenin Order (1949, 1957); Lenin Prize (1959).
