Biography

06.11.1923, Karakemer village, Kordai district, Dzhambul region (according to previously published sources) // collective farm "Uzhet", Frunzensky district, Alma-Ata region - 08.06.2001, Almaty.

Ballet dancer, ballet master, researcher, teacher. Honored Art Figure of the KazSSR (1958), Candidate of Art History (1979), People's Artist of the KazSSR (1984), professor (1998).

1931-1934 - pupil of Alma-Ata orphanage No.13.

1933-1942 - student of Kazakh Musical and Choreographic Centre (first graduation, 1933-1942). Graduate of A. Seleznev’s class. At the same time, he graduated from the secondary school.

1942-1944 - extern student of the 1, 2 years of study of the Department of Journalism, Faculty of Philology at the S. M. Kirov KazSU.

1942 - 1946 - worked in the Abay SAOBT, soon he was called up for military service in the Soviet Army, served in the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Border Troops of the Jarkent Border Detachment.

1947, January-September, after demobilization, began re-education in the final class of the choreographic school and at the same time he began his artistic activity.

1947-1952- by the direction of the Department of Arts under the Council of Ministers of the KazSSR and Abay SAOBT he studied at the Ballet master’s department of the A.V. Lunacharsky GITIS, Moscow, in R. Zakharov’s studio.

The first professional performer of the male roles in the ballets of the classical repertoire: Albert ("Giselle"), Nurali ("The Fountain of Bakhchisarai"), Phoebus ("La Esmeralda"), Basil ("Don Quixote"), Siegfried ("Swan Lake"), Young man ("Chopiniana"). He performed the role of Ali in the ballet “On the Way of Friendship”, Menshikov in “The Bronze Horseman”, and character dances in the ballet performances.

1951-1958 - being a student of the final year of study at GITIS, he was accepted to the Abay SAOBT as a ballet master for staging his Diploma work - the ballet "Youth" by M. Chulaki.

1958-1966 - chief ballet master of the Abay SAOBT. Co-producer of the national ballet "On the Way of Friendship" (with Y. Kovalev, R. Zakharov) to the music of N. Tlendiyev, L. Stepanov, E. Manayev (1958), creator of the national ballet "Kambar and Nazim" by V. Velikanov (1959), author of the libretto and director of the ballet "The Old Man Khottabych" by A. Zatsepin (1961), co-director of the ballet "The Legend of the White Bird" (with Z. Raibayev) to the music by G. Zhubanova (1966), director of the national ballet "Akkanat" by G. Zhubanova (1966), author of the libretto and director of the national ballet "Kozy-Korpesh and Bayan-Sulu" (1972).

The ballet master and restorer of a number of classical ballets: “La Esmeralda” by C. Pugni, E. Gliere, S.Vasilenko (1953, 1959), “Shurale” by F. Yarullin (1956), “The Legend of Love” by A. Melikov (1963), “Raymonda” by A. Glazunov, “Coast of Happiness” by A. Spadavecchia.

He contributed much to the formation and development of the Kazakh stage dance, created unique dance scenes in the operas (more than 15 operas): "Birzhan and Sara", "Kyz-Zhibek", "Zhalbyr", "Er-Targyn", "Dudaray", "Amangeldy”, “Kamar Sulu”, “Aisulu”, “In the Storm”, “Issyk-Kul”, etc.; unforgettable dance performances: "Balbyrauyn", "Bylkyldak", "Bes kyz", "Kaz-katar", "Koshtasu", "Altynay", "Sylkyma", "Kara-Zhorga", "Tepenkok", "Utys bi". Director of dances in dramatic performances: "Nazugum", "Anarkhan", "Kerip Sanam", "ChokanValikhanov"; in the films: "Our Dear Doctor", "The Singing Village" director Sh. Aimanov, "The Jigit Girl" director P. Bogolyubov.

1976-1984 - chief ballet master of the “Kazakhconcert”, he created original solo compositions: "Shepherd", "Orteke","Aigolek","Kyzdar-ai", "Aizhan kyz", "Czech Polka", "Pair Hopak", "Russian Comic Dance", “Koyan-Burkit”.

1980-1982 - on behalf of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR, he worked in the Yemen Arab Republic, where he created the first professional dance ensemble, which successfully performed in the countries of the Arab world, the USA, France, Great Britain.

In the regions of Kazakhstan, he created 18 folk ensembles: “Syr Suluy” (Kyzylorda), “Nurgul” (Kzyl-Orda region), “Dostyk” (Karaganda), “Builder” (Temirtau), “Kalamkas” (Semipalatinsk), Alatau (Zhambyl region), “Bayan Sulu” (Pavlodar), "Ulytau", "Taugulderi" (Zhezkazgan region), “Zhetisu” (Taldykorgan), "Sherter" (Turgai region), "Ular", "Altynai" (Women PI, Almaty), etc.

Since 1952 - teacher at the ACS, the Kurmangazy KSC.

1987 - at the music faculty of KazSWPI he opened the specialty "Choreography", which in 2006 became a separate department. He was at the origins of the organization and opening of the HSC (now the Faculty of Choreography at the T. K. Zhurgenov KazNAA). He initiated the organization and opening of the choreographic department at the Institute of Theatre and Art (Zhurgenov KazNAA), and was the Head of the department. He contributed much to the development of the ballet theatre, choreographic art and choreographic education in Kazakhstan.

He was engaged in research activities in the field of studying the origins and history of the Kazakh dance development. In 1979 in Moscow, he defended the dissertation on the topic "Formation and development of the Kazakh dance on the professional stage". He is the author of the books and study guides: “Kazakh folk dances”. In co-authorship with Ismailov A. - Alma-Ata: Kazgoslitizdat, 1961, in 1983 - the second edition; “Origins and main elements of the Kazakh folk choreography”. - Alma-Ata, 1992; “History of the Kazakh dance: Training manual”. - Almaty: "Sanat", 1997.

Awards: Badge "For excellent work" of the Ministry of Culture of the USSR for active work in preparation and holding of the VI World Festival of Youth and Students (1957); Order of the Red Banner of Labor (1959), medal "For the Victory over Germany in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945" (1959); medal "For valiant work in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of V. I. Lenin" (1970); medal "30 years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945" (1976).
