THE FOUNTAIN OF BAKHCHISARAI

Choreographic poem in 4 acts with prologue and epilogue.

Composer - Boris Asafyev, Libretto - Nikolai Volkov, based on the poem of the same title by A.S. Pushkin. Choreography - Rostislav Zakharov. Choreographer - Yuri Kovalev. Production designer - Anatoly Nenashev. Production conductor - Fyodor Kuzmich.

The premiere took place on May 24, 1942 at the SAOBT (now the Abay KazNOBT).

Characters and performers: Maria - Natalya Vikentieva; Vaslav - Yuri Kovalev; Zarema - Nursulu Tapalova; Girey - Vladimir Kandelaki; Nurali - Almas Bekbosynov.

During the Great Patriotic War, on June 18, 1942, G. Ulanova performed the role of Maria at the Abay SAOBT. In the theatrical seasons of 1941-1942, 1942-1943, the performance was periodically held with the following artists: Maria - Galina Ulanova, Vaslav - Vladimir Bakanov, Zarema - Nursulu Tapalova, Girey - Vladimir Kandelaki, Nurali - Almas Bekbosynov.

REVIVAL. The premiere took place on November 8, 1958 at the Abay SAOBT. Choreography and staging - Rostislav Zakharov, co-director - Dauren Abirov. Production designer - Anatoly Nenashev. Production conductor - Gaziz Dugashev.

Zarema, the beloved wife of Khan Girey, tries in vain to return the feelings of the Khan, who is unrequitedly in love with his captive, the Polish Princess Maria. In desperation, Zarema kills Maria, for which Girey orders to execute Zarema. At the Fountain of Tears, Khan Girey mourns his beloved.

THE REVIVAL OF THE PERFORMANCE IN 2021. The performance was staged in a new edition by Altynai Asylmuratova. Conductor - Arman Urazgaliyev. Set designer: Ezio Frigerio. Costume designer - Franca Squarciapino. Lighting designer -Vinicio Cheli. Projection designer - Sergio Metalli. Assistant ballet master-director - Konstantin Zaklinsky, Elena Sherstneva. Assistant costume designer - Sofya Tasmagambetova.

The premiere took place on April 23, 24, 25, 2021 at the Astana Opera Theatre.
