The idea of creating a ballet - Bazargali Zhamanbayev. Composers - Giacomo Puccini, Gaziza Zhubanova, based on the opera “Cio-Cio-San”. Libretto: Luigi Illica, Giuseppe Giacosa, Gaziza Zhubanova. Choreography and staging - Asami Maki, Kyozo Metani (Tokyo, Japan). Production designer - Alla Kozhenkova (Moscow, Russia). Production conductor - Valery Rutter.
The premiere took place on April 30, 1992 on the stage of the Abay SAOBT.

In the center of the plot is a tragic love story.
In the prologue, American Lieutenant Pinkerton is immersed in memories of his romantic love for the beautiful young geisha Butterfly.
In the first act - the happy wedding day of Butterfly and Pinkerton in the circle of the faithful maid Suzuki, broker Goro, the American consul Sharpless. The ceremony is interrupted by the head of the Bonze clan with a curse: " This marriage will bring misfortune!". Pinkerton comforts his beloved.
In the second act, Pinkerton is again gripped by memories. Three years have passed since the wedding. He left for America a long time ago. And in Japan, Butterfly and her little son continue to wait for him...
Japan. Butterfly interrupts Suzuki's plaintive prayer, believing that her lover will return to her. Goro brings her back to reality with the message that Prince Yamadori asks for her hand again. However, the geisha refuses once again. Sharpless brings bad news - Pinkerton is married to an American. Butterfly in despair: “But what about the son?!” Sharpless promises to tell Pinkerton about his son.
Spring has come. The state of mind of Butterfly, Pinkerton, Sharpless and Kate, the wife of Pinkerton, stands in contrast to the cherry blossom holiday ...
Suzuki sees the appearance of Pinkerton, Sharpless and Kate, who take away Butterfly's son. Terrified, Butterfly remembers Bonze's curse. Having said goodbye to her son, Butterfly, who has lost the meaning of life, performs a prayer ceremony and stabs herself.
Epilogue. The death of his beloved shocked Pinkerton. Throughout his life, he will carry her charming appearance.
