The title of the ballet at first production was “Dzungarian Gate”.

Composer - Lev Stepanov (Moscow, RSFSR). Libretto - Kanabek Baiseitov. Choreography and staging - Yuri Kovalev. Production designer - Aitymtay Moldabekov. Production conductor - Evgeny Manayev.

The premiere took place on June 15, 1957 at the Abay SAOBT.

The libretto is based on the events related to the history of the Kazakh land. The ballet was aimed at the formation of national identity, touched upon the themes of friendship, love and fidelity, the struggle for freedom.

The new production of the ballet was carried out during the preparation for the Decade of Kazakh Art and Literature in Moscow. "Dzungarian Gate" have undergone significant revising. The composition of creative team of the creators of the performance was strengthened. In the new production, the ballet was named"On The Way of Friendship" and consisted of 4 acts.

The premiere took place on July 5, 1958 at the Abay SAOBT.

The literary basis of the ballet "On The Way of Friendship" was the revised libretto of the play "Dzungarian Gate". The action of some scenes took place on the Kazakh land. The first scene of the first act with a complete and expressive plot, which became a celebration of the national dance, was the most interesting and successful. Most of the events developed in China.
