Biography
(03.04.1958, Alma-Ata) - Kazakhstani composer, performer. Honored Art Figure of the Republic of Kazakhstan (1996), Chairman of the Board of the Union of Composers of Kazakhstan (1998-2007), professor (2007).
In 1965-1976 he studied at the Republican Secondary Specialized Music School for Gifted Children named after Kulyash Baiseitova. In 1981 he graduated from the Faculty of Theory and Composition of the Kurmangazy Almaty State Conservatory on specialty "Composition".
In 1999-2003- Head of the Department of Composition and Opera- Symphonic Conducting at the Kurmangazy State Conservatory. Head of the Department of Composition and Opera-Symphonic Conducting, First Vice-Rector of the Kazakh National University of Arts (2005-2015). Artistic director of the SCO "Qazaqconcert" (2016-2018). 2018-2022 - Advisor to the Director of the SCO "Qazaqconcert".
Composer of the music for the ballet "Eternal Flame". The premiere took place in 1985 on the stage of the Abay SAOBT in Alma-Ata, choreography by Mintai Tleubayev, libretto by Duisenbek Nakipov. In 2010 at the K. Baiseitova Opera and Ballet Theatre (Astana) the ballet "Eternal Flame" in the new musical edition of S. Yerkimbekov and the creative tandem of choreographer Vyacheslav Goncharov and production designer Vyacheslav Okunev was staged. He wrote music for the choreographic numbers "Sholpy" staged by Z. Raibayev, "Gauhar bilezik" staged by A. Kulbekova, "Tas-Aruakh" ("Stone Idol") staged by M. Tleubayev.
S. Yerkimbekov is the author of many musical works in various forms: Piano concerto with a symphonic orchestra, "Shakarim" symphony, "Minaret" symphonic picture, "Orchestral Allegro for Violin and Orchestra", musical (“The House of Your Dreams”, 2011), films (“House by the Salt Lake”, “Order of St. Andrew the Apostle First-Called”), music for the TV series (“Kazyna”, 2014) and drama performances (“Dananyn muny”, “Anasyn ansagan kyz”, “Scythian Passions”, “Migula terisi ustindegi sot”, “Kuishi Dina”, etc.). He has performed with symphony and chamber orchestras on the concert stages in Europe, Central Asia, the USA, and Russia.
