JONATHAN David
Biography
(10.12.1985, Brisbane, Australia) – ballet dancer, choreographer.
He graduated from the Queensland School of Dance (2002), performed at the Queensland Ballet Company, and completed professional development courses at the Australian Ballet School (2002-2005).
In 2006, he joined the Western Australian company as a ballet dancer, where he began his career as a choreographer, creating choreographic miniatures as part of the Perth International Arts Festival.
In 2007 he was accepted to the company of the Royal Ballet of Flanders (Belgium), in 2013 he received the status of a soloist.
Since 2016, he has been the leading artist of the “Astana Ballet” Theatre, where he performs the leading roles of the classical, neoclassical and modern repertoire in the ballets and concert numbers by R. Amarante, R. Terranova, J. Balanchine, W. Forsyth, G. Kovtun, M. Avakhri.
As a choreographer, he has staged a number of productions, including: “Beyond This” by J. Adams (2007) and “Saudades” by M. Richter (2011) in the ballet troupe of Western Australia, “Not Quite December” by M. Richter (2008), “For You” by G. Frapp (2009), “Evolutie van Dans” by J. Adams (2010), “I forgot you’re famous” by P. Schwalm (2010), “Secretly Yours” by M. Richter (2011), “According To” by N. Frahm and P. Schwalm (2013) and “Delicate Treasure” by W. Mozart (2015) for the Royal Ballet of Flanders.
He staged the ballets “Re-discovering Bach” by J. Bach (2019) for the Abay SAOBT, “Instinct” by J. Loussier, R. Moore and P. Le Boeuf (2020) for the “Astana Ballet” Theatre.
Awards: Winner of the International Competition of Choreographers in Helsinki, Finland (2009).
