Biography

(19.02.1950, Odessa, Ukraine) – choreographer, director. Honored Art Figure of the RSFSR (1988), People’s Artist of the Republic of Tatarstan (2010).

1966-1970 he studied at the Odessa Choreographic School, worked as a ballet dancer at the Odessa Musical Theatre. 1969-1970 – choreographer and ballet dancer of the Odessa Ensemble “Choreographic Miniatures”.

1970-1973 – studied at the Voronezh Choreographic School, headed the choreographic group “Youth of Voronezh”, and then he worked as a ballet dancer and choreographer in Dushanbe (Tajik SSR), the Far Eastern Military Ensemble, as well as in the Buryat Opera and Ballet Theater.

In 1985 he graduated from the N. A. Rimsky-Korsakov Leningrad Conservatory on specialty “Choreographer-director”.

Since 1981 – artistic director and chief choreographer of the Chukсhi-Eskimo ensemble “Ergyron”. Since 1986 he has been the Chief director of the Moscow Jewish Theatre.

1987- 1994 – chief ballet master of the Kyiv Opera and Ballet Theater for Children and Youth, where he staged more than 30 ballets; 1990-1992 – Chief director of the Georgy Kovtun Drama Theater; since 1994 – Choreographer of the M. P. Mussorgsky St. Petersburg Opera and Ballet Theatre (Mikhailovsky Theatre); 1996-1998 – chief ballet master of the Omsk Musical Theatre;

Since 2000 he has been teaching at the St. Petersburg Conservatory at the Department of Ballet Directing.

The author of more than 300 productions: the ballets “The Tale of Good and Evil” (1983), “The Legend of the Raven” (1983) in the State Chukchi-Eskimo Song and Dance Ensemble “Ergyron”, “Petersburg Dreams” by N. A. Martynov, “Ship of Fools” by T. Twining, “Demon” by A. Kostin, “Spartacus” by A. Khachaturian (2008), dance scene “Polovtsian dances” in the opera “Prince Igor” by A. P. Borodin, “Concerto for Old Age” to music by G. Bizet, “Walpurgis Night” in the opera “Faust” by C. Gounod at the Mikhailovsky Theater; “Spartacus” by A. Khachaturian (2008), “Peer Gynt” by E. Grieg, “The Legend of Yusuf” by L. Lyubovsky (2010), “Golden Horde” by R. Akhiyarova (2013), dance numbers in operas “Aida”, “The Flying Dutchman”, “Cuckoo Cry”, the opera “Carmen” by G. Bizet (2011) at the M. Jalil Kazan Opera and Ballet Theatre; rock opera “Romeo and Juliet” by E. A. Lapeyko (2002), musical “Silicon Fool. NET” by A. Pantykin (2009) at the Odessa Theater of Musical Comedy, etc.

He is the production ballet master of the performances “Walpurgis Night” by C. Gounod (2017), “Kozy Korpesh – Bayan Sulu” (2021) by A. Raimkulova and “The Snow Queen” (2022) by R. Salimov at the “Astana Ballet” Theatre.
