Composer - Arif Melikov. Libretto - Nazim Hikmet. Choreographer - Dauren Abirov, interpretation and fragments of the production by Yuri Grigorovich (SABT, Moscow, RSFSR). Set Designer - Vladimir Semizorov in accordance with the author's decision of Simon Virsaladze (SABT, Moscow, RSFSR). Production conductor - Turgut Osmanov.

The premiere took place on April 13, 1963 on the stage of the Abay SAOBT.

Characters and performers: Shirin - Sara Kusherbayeva; Farhad - Vladimir Vasilyev; Mekhmene Banu - Valentina Kuznetsova; Vizier - Abduakhim Asylmuratov; Stranger - Leonid Taganov.

Revival. The premiere took place on January 13, 1968 on the stage of the Abay SAOBT.

New production. The premiere of the new performance took place on March 15-16, 2007 on the stage of the Abay SAOBT.

Characters and performers: Mekhmene Banu, queen - Nailya Krebayeva, Ekaterina Khomkina; Shirin, her sister - Kuralai Sarkytbayeva, Leila Alpiyeva; Ferkhad, court painter - Alexander Volchkov (SABT, Moscow, Russia), Alexei Safronov; Vizier - Dmitry Sushkov, Amir Zheksenbek; Stranger - Baurzhan Dzhakanov, Nurlan Baibusinov; Jester - Nurlan Konokbaev, Yerzhan Doskarayev.

In the chambers of Mekhmene Banu, deep sorrow reigns - her sister, young Shirin, is dying. The vizier and courtiers are in fear. Mekhmene is in despair. The Stranger who suddenly appeared is ready to save the princess, for this Mekhmene Banu must sacrifice her beauty.

Shirin comes back to life. Mekhmene Banu is full of passion for Ferkhad. She understands in despair that now, having lost her beauty, Ferkhad's love is inaccessible.

Ferkhad is in the mountains. He sees that he has opened the way for water, and the image of his beloved Shirin appears before him.

Production at the Astana Ballet Theatre.
