Biography

02.09.1932, village of Savinka, Pallasovsky canton, ASSR of the Germans of the Volga region, the Lower Volga area – 17.11.2009, Astana.

Theater and film director, teacher. Honored Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1961), Laureate of the K. Baiseitova State Prize of the Kazakh SSR (1965), People's Artist of the Kazakh SSR (1970), People's Artist of the Karakalpak ASSR (1972), Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR (1974), People's Artist of the USSR (1976), professor (1979).

He was awarded the highest degree of distinction in Kazakhstan - the title of "Halyk Kaharmany" (People's Hero) with the award of a sign of special distinction - the Golden Star and the Order "Otan" - "Fatherland" (2000).

In 1952 he graduated from the acting department of the N. Gogol Alma-Ata Theater and Art School and, at the same time, the dance department of the Kazakh Choreographic School. During his studies, he was a soloist of the Song and Dance Ensemble of the Kazakh SSR.

1952 - 1957 – student of the Directing department of Lunacharsky GITIS, studio of N. Gorchakov and A. Goncharov.

1957-1965 – director of the M. O. Auezov KADT.

1965 - the end of the 1970s - chief director, and since 1970 the director of the M. O. Auezov KADT.

Production director of dramatic performances that made up the golden fund of the M. O. Auezov KADT: "Abai" (1961), "Mother's Field" (1964), "Koblandy" (1965), "Kozy-Korpesh and Bayan-Sulu" (1971), "Blood and Sweat" (1974), "Climbing Mount Fuji" (1975) etc.

Late 1970s – internship at the “Mosfilm” film studio.

1978-1980 – Director of "Kazakhfilm" film studio.

1980-1995 – Artistic director of the M. O. Auezov KADT.

1981-1995 – Member of the Union of Theater Figures of the Kazakh SSR, 1995-1999 - Chairman.

1980-1995 – M.O. Auezov Kazakh Academic Drama Theater, Artistic director.

1999-2008 – Artistic director of the K. Kuanyshbayev Kazakh State Music and Drama Theatre (Astana).

1979-2000 – Professor of the Alma-Ata Theater and Art Institute.

He is the author of the libretto of the ballet "The Legend of the White Bird" to the music by G. Zhubanova, staged at the Abay SAOBT (1966).

Based on the tragedy of the same title by M. Auezov, he created the libretto for the ballet "Karagoz" to the music by G. Zhubanova staged by G. Aleksidze at the Abay SAOBT (1990).

Awards: Order of the Labor Red Banner; Order of the Peoples’ Friendship; Medal "For labor distinction" (1959). Special Prize "For outstanding contribution to the development of directing art in the region" of the International Festival "Nauryz-92" in Tashkent; the title of "Honorary Citizen of Astana" (2000).
