MARKELOV Nikolai Igorevich
Biography
(01.04.1978, Chita, RF) – choreographer, Honored Art Figure of the Udmurt Republic (2009).
1998 – graduated from Saratov Choreographic School on specialty “Ballet dancer”. 2006 – graduated from the A. Ya. Vaganova ARB, specialty “Choreography directing”, studio of the People’s Artist of Russia, professor Yu. N. Petukhov. 2022 – graduated from the Russian State Institute of Performing Arts, specialty “Musical Theater Director”.
1996-1998 – ballet dancer of the N. G. Chernyshevsky Saratov Academic Theater. 1998-2004 – soloist of the St. Petersburg Male Ballet of V. Mikhailovsky. 2003-2004 – soloist of the St. Petersburg “L. Yakobson Choreographic Miniatures” Theater.
2005 – production ballet master, later chief ballet master at the Opera and Ballet Theater of the Udmurt Republic. Performances: “Gone with the Wind” (2005), “Don’t be jealous of Broadway” (2006), “Romeo and Juliet – XX Century” (2006), “Mowgli” (2007), “Spanish Evening” (2008), “Sleeping Beauty” (2008), “Don Quixote” (2011), “VIVAT, Diaghilev” (2011), “Castadiva” (2012), “The Nutcracker” (2013), “Swan Lake” (2015),”Cipollino” (2015), “Turandot” (2016), “La Bayadère” (2017), “Pinocchio” (2017), “The Legend of the Invisible City of Kitezh and the Maiden Fevronia” (2018), “Juno and Avos” (2018).
He often took part in the ballet festivals in Russia and abroad, collaborated in the International projects: together with the Honored Artist of RF V. Ganibalova and Dr. Art History P. Grosman (Germany) staged the play “White Nights” (2005) as part of the cultural project “Berlin – St. Petersburg”. He is the author of choreographic miniatures and programs for the students of choreographic schools in Saratov, Perm, the A. Ya. Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet. In 2010, as a guest ballet master at Franceconcert (France), he staged the play “Don Quixote” by L. Minkus.
In 2015, for the “Astana Ballet” Theater, he created the original one-act ballet “Cleopatra” to music by M. Ravel.
Awards: Diploma winner of the IX Festival of Professional Theaters of the UR “Theatrical Spring” (2006); Diploma winner of the XII Festival of professional theaters of Udmurtia “Theatrical Spring” (2012); “Person of the Year-2006” (in the frame of the “People of the Year-2006” project); Gold Diploma of the XII International Slavic Forum of Arts “Golden Knight” (2022).
