Deciding to return her, Orpheus descends into the underworld of Hades. There was only one condition: he must not to look at her. Orpheus puts a mask over his eyes and leads his wife from the realm of the dead. The saddened Eurydice wonders why he does not look at her, and thinks that he has stopped loving her ... Orpheus cannot stand it, takes off his mask, and only by looking into his eyes, Eurydice dies. The Furies carry off the body of Eurydice. Orpheus returns alone.
