Biography

ISMAILOV Aubakir (02.01.1913, village No.6, Telmanovsky district, Karaganda region - 08.03.1999, Almaty) - folk dancer, director, film actor, artist. Honored Artist of the KazSSR (1960), People's Artist of Kazakhstan (1985)

In 1927 he was admitted to the Studio for Kazakh youth at M.A.Vrubel Omsk Art and Industrial College. 1929-1932 studied at the HATS (Graphic faculty) in Moscow, teachers: V. A. Favorsky, D. S. Moore, P. P. Konchalovsky). Graduated from the directing faculty of Lunacharsky State Institute of Theater Arts (GITIS), studio of I. Ya. Sudakov (1934-1938).

Research activity occupies a huge place in his creative biography. Realizing the need and importance of preserving dance folklore, he carefully and scrupulously recorded dances he saw, performed by the gifted dancers. Despite the intense and fruitful creative activity in the visual arts, he managed to leave the unique legacy in Kazakh dance, contributed to the creation, study and development of national dance art.

During the period 14.02-1.05.1934, at the Kazakh Research Institute of National Culture, he was involved in the search for materials on the Kazakh dances and the creativity of the Kazakh composer Kurmangazy. In 1934 he created the Kazakh dance ensemble on the basis of the Kazakh studio at GITIS. In the period 1934-1939 he created dances for the Kazakh acting studio at GITIS. In 1939 organized folk dance ensemble at the Kazakh State philharmonic. In 1945 he created dance performances in the State dance ensemble of the Kazakh SSR for the All-Union show of labor reserves (Moscow). In 1947 organized song and dance ensemble among the students of the S.M. Kirov Kazakh State University. In 1961, together with choreographer D.T. Abirov published the first textbook on Kazakh dance "Kazakh Folk Dances". In 1982 he staged the Kazakh folk dances "Kusbegi-dauylpaz" and "Zhastar bii" for the ensemble of soloists of the "Sazgen" folklore ensemble at Yklas Museum of Musical Instruments.

In 1934 at the All-Union Art Meeting in Moscow, A. Ismailov performed several folk dances: “Kusbegi-dauylpaz”, “Utys-bi”, “Nasybaishy”. In 1943, at the Abai Opera and Ballet Theatre the "Kazakh dance suite" was staged, where "Kara-zhorga" staged by A. Ismailov, was performed. The dance was presented at the Exhibition of Achievements of the National Economy (VDNH) in Montreal (1959).Dance performances by A. Ismailov have been performed at all All-Union decades which took place in Moscow. Frames and excerpts with A. Ismailov's dances have been preserved in the film "The Blue Route" (directed by Zh. Baitenov, based on the script by O. Suleimenov, 1968); in the film "Goodbye, Medeo" (1981); in the documentary "The Palette of Life" based on the script of his daughter G.A. Ismailova (1982)

Awards: Diploma of the Supreme Council of the Kazakh SSR (1942); Medal "For Valiant Labor in the Great Patriotic War 1941-1945" (1945); Medal "For Labor Distinction" (1946); "Badge of Honor" Order (1959); Jubilee medal "For Valiant Labor" (1970); Order of the Red Labor Banner (1974); Jubilee medal "Thirty Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War" (1975); Medal "60 years of the Kazakh SSR" (1980); Jubilee medal "40 Years of Victory in the Great Patriotic War" (1985).
