On July 23, 1806, by the order of the emperor, chamberlain Count Rezanov set off with a team of sailors on two schooners "Juno" and "Avos" to America to establish trade relations. The Holy fool is together with him. He protects the count in a dangerous and difficult journey.
Having overcome the hardships, the pioneers reach the coast of California. At the ball in honor of the guests from distant Russia, the count meets young Conchita, the daughter of the governor of San Francisco. He is struck by the beauty of the girl, who reminds him of the image of the Virgin, descended from the icon. Conchita also fell in love with a Russian sailor who invited her to dance. The lovers swear eternal love to each other, but the difference in religion becomes an insurmountable obstacle in their path.
Rezanov sails to Russia to obtain permission to marry a Catholic girl, but dies on the way. The last minutes of life are full of memories of the beloved. Sailors mourn the death of the captain.
Conchita is waiting for the return of her lover. Years, decades pass in hope and expectation... She dies without knowing about Rezanov's death.
The lovers died, but their love and devotion to each other are immortal. Hallelujah to love, hallelujah!
